Nous avons (notice the Z sound between nous and avons)

Vous avez (notice the Z sound between vous and avez)

Ils/Elles ont (notice the Z sound between ils or elles and ont)

How to use Avoir

Avoir is used to express possession

• J’ai deux soeurs
• Tu as une belle maison
• Ils ont beaucoup d’argent.

It’s also used to express some feelings, often uncomfortable.

• J’ai faim
• J’ai soif
• J’ai peur
• J’ai chaud
• J’ai froid

This can be confusing as the English translates to « I am », instead of « I have ».
